You don't have to be a cynic to have seen this one coming. Almost eight years after 9/11, the World Trade Center site remains nothing but a giant concrete hole, as political infighting, special interests, government intervention and a clear lack of authority have decimated any hope of rebuilding. So Ground Zero it shall remain.
The owners of the proerty, locked in a new round of heated talks with a private developer, have, uh, ground to a halt with plans to build two of three towers because of the failing real estate market. Bets on whether the first tower ever finds its way "off the ground"? I'm going with n-e-v-e-r.
An analysis predicts World Trade Center developers wouldn't be able to finish building the three towers until 2030. By that point, I, for one, will no longer be processing solid food.
Pathetic and sadly typical of the hierarchy of New York state, where we can't even get a subway budget passed for the state's largest city. It is indeed the blind leading the blind (sorry for the two "blind" metaphors in two posts today, but if the eyepatch fits...). Grrr.
