People Magazine's Sexiest Man Alive 2012: Channing Tatum

Yup, I can sure live with that... People magazine has named its 2012 Sexiest Man Alive as Channing Tatum, who electrified the screen this year with Magic Mike... not to mention bringing to the big screen a hot & hunky cast that included Joe Manganiello, Matthew McConaughey, Matt Bomer, Alex Pettyfer and Alex Rodriguez.

Here's what People writes about Tatum in advance of the Sexiest Man issue that comes out Friday, November 16... He may have bared (almost) all of that incredibly chiseled body in this year's Magic Mike but 2012's Sexiest Man Alive Channing Tatum was still modest when he heard the news: "My first thought was, 'Y'all are messing with me,'" says Tatum, who married actress Jenna Dewan-Tatum in 2009. "I told Jenna after we'd been in the bathtub washing our dogs because they'd gotten skunked."

Her Alabama-bred heartthrob of a husband is also a sculptor who quotes Edgar Allan Poe, loves to give her massages and can't wait to start their family. "I'm ready; I think she's ready," Tatum, 32, says.

"The first number that pops into my head is three, but I just want one to be healthy and then we'll see where we go after that. It’s really easy for us guys to say, 'I want like 15 kids. Jenna will be like, 'Well you better get another wife!'"

Currently training to play an Olympic athlete in next year's Foxcatcher, Tatum is all heart and muscle at 195 pounds. "I like to be lean. If I get too bulky I can't move well and I like to move," he says. "When I'm not training, I get really round and soft." Which is just fine by his wife. "People know him to be fun and sexy, but they don't know how emotionally deep and spiritually open he is," says Dewan-Tatum, 31. "He is such an open-hearted person; what you see is what you get."

Previous recent People mag cover men: Last year, Bradley Cooper was honored with as Sexiest, Ryan Reynolds took the 2010 title, and Johnny Depp was named in 2009. Fellow Magic Mike alumnus McConaughey was awarded the Sexiest trophy in 2005. For the complete list, of People Magazine's Sexiest Man Alive choices from 1985 through 2011, see below the jump. *

Morning Joe: Manganiello Covers Aussie 'Men's Health' Australia

Joe Manganiello, who dons his biceps on the November 2012 cover of Oz's Men's Health—another in a series of sexy mag fronts over the past year—has given us one more reason to fall in love with The Smoking Nun's 2011 Sexiest Man Alive.

Earlier this month, he presented his pal, Magic Mike co-star Matt Bomer, with an “Inspiration Award” at the 8th Annual Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network’s (GLSEN) Awards. There, he also shared his views on civil rights for all: "You are the example that the rest of our country needs to wake up and see in terms of equality and putting an end to the bullying epidemic and making sure that every family is respected in our schools and our society.” Sweet!

Other news: Channing Tatum says he may want to direct the supposedly coming sequel to Magic Mike: "It’s too good of a movie, and the characters are so crazy, that we want to go for it. We feel like we did the little indie version last time, and for the next one, we want to up the stakes, maybe go even farther." Previous director Steven Soderbergh says he has retired for good, this time, and is not up for Magic Mike 2. Tatum adds it may be a while before MM2 materializes: “We’re not going to direct our first movie as a sequel to a Steven Soderbergh movie. That’s not smart. I want to start with something very small, make a lot of mistakes, make them real early, then jump in on Magic Mike 2.” *

Matt Bomer's 'White Collar' New Season TONIGHT!

I've seen only a couple random episodes of White Collar, starring Matt Bomer. But now that he's more comfortable in his skin by coming out (aren't we all?), I'm looking forward to tuning in to see him in action in the new season opener TONIGHT on USA Network.

For sure, he seems to have actually gotten better looking since he opened the closet door. At age 34, he is truly one of the more elegant gents we have in pop culture. *

Could William Levy Be William Grey In 'Fifty Shades Of Grey'?

Following his star-making turn in reality show Dancing With The Stars, it's time for William Levy to make his next major move. If he truly wants to transition to the big screen as a potential Hollywood A-lister, time's ticking, baby. His recent turn in VH1's Single Ladies was a sweet distraction, but isn't going to propel him any further.

I'm still steamed that in August, Will turned down the role of a lifetime in Steven Soderbergh's Magic Mike, which has turned into a smash flick, and certainly would have amped his exposure to a mainstream American audience.

So how about this? Erotic romance trilogy Fifty Shades of Grey by British author E. L. James has become the talk of Tinseltown. The book has supplanted Hunger Games on the New York Times Bestseller List, sold 20 million copies worldwide with movie rights secured by Universal Pictures. Names are being tossed about to play the lead roles of Christan Grey (& Anastasia Steele), including Max Irons, Matt Bomer, Chris Pine, Kellan Lutz, Alex Pettyfer, Ryan Gosling and Henry Cavill. There is also a grass-roots effort to bring Levy's attention to producers, including a Facebook page dedicated to casting Will.

The character of Christian Grey possesses model good looks, he's a dashing billionaire with limitless power, humor and and a beseeching dark side. Most of all, he's a sexual dynamo. Sounds like Will to me, cool cats. While casting is still years away, online petitions and swoon-worthy discussions are blanketing the web with suggestions of the ideal Grey.

According to webbie Penguincookies, "William Levy would be the unconventional choice to play Christian Grey. The man embodies the definition of good looking. William has the height, body and sultry eyes, and this role may be his ticket to stardom in the States. The movie just may profit from the millions of ladies that already swoon over him."

Time will tell, although to be honest, Levy is already Grey in our little world, as the Sexiest Man Alive. *

'Magic Mike' Delivers... I'd Grade It 'Ooh La La'

Score!! The first movie of 2012 I've seen in a theater was as much fun as I'd hoped. Magic Mike delivers tons of A&A (abs and ass), with sexy dance routines and more than enough gratuitous physical male beauty. It's about time the playing field was equalized, huh?

As expected, the "plot" about Channing Tatum and his love interest was a needless distraction... and I remain dumbfounded at just how wholly unappealing female lead Cody Horn is. Amid so much machismo, it was distracting to have to gaze at her horse face in every other scene. Of course, it all makes sense when you discover that Horn's father is chairman of Walt Disney Studios and was previously president of Warner Bros. Hello, nepotism.

Ah, but the scintillating charms of easy on the eyes Matthew McConaughey, a surprsingly beautiful Alex Pettyfer, pretty boy Matt Bomer, handsome Channing, smoking Adam Rodriguez... and of course my man Joe Manganiello, which all made up for such a slight distraction. The flick is indeed fun, sexy and effectively delivered, so you don't feel like you contributed cash for a soft porn extravaganza that is as dim-witted as a Nicki Minaj song. Good times! *

Joe Manganiello In 'Magic Mike'... The Wait Is Over!

At last! Friday is the long-awaited opening of stripper flick Magic Mike, which has gotten just the kind of press it needs to be a potential box office smash. The media has been having a BIG time with the fact that its A-level cast—Channing Tatum, Matthew McConaughey, Matt Bomer and, of course, Joe Manganiello—is taking it all off, curious about the routines we'll see in the film and giving it props for direction by renowned Hollywood A-lister Steven Soderbergh.

So for Big Dick Mike, the character Joe is playing, we'll see him appear in costume at stripper club Xquisite as a fireman, a gold statue and a businessman. In fact, there is a scene where his winkie swings in full view in silhouette (see gif below the jump).

PopcornBiz offers: "With his sexually charged role in director Steven Soderbergh’s foray into the world of male exotic dancers, Magic Mike, in which he struts on stage in approximately half of a fireman’s uniform and his turn as the strong, sensitive and frequently shirtless werewolf Alcide Herveaux on True Blood, Manganiello has cultivated a legion of admirers who admittedly may be focusing more on his form than his technique. But the 35-year-old actor, who graduated from the prestigious Carnegie Mellon School of Drama, tells PopcornBiz that he’s confident that with each new role audiences will see beyond his six-pack."

Manganiello: "The only hesitation was just that voice in my head that said, 'Okay, everybody makes such a big deal out of you being shirtless on True Blood. Now you're going to be a male stripper.' So there was just a thought about that... but who cares? I'm known for being shirtless in projects helmed by Oscar winners. So what? Fine. I think that if it was a male stripper movie with most anyone else you probably would look at it cross-eyed, but it's Steven. Then you go, 'Okay, it's Steven. It's Channing. It's McConaughey. It's penis pump and it's Fireman. It's Gold Man.'"

Joe also tells the Detroit Free Press about his businessman routine: "I have one that's a silhouette behind a screen that's pretty complex, because, it's a tear-away suit. It's a full suit with suspenders, shirt, tie, shoes, briefcase and it's all tear-away and it all has to be removed to a piece of music without busting through it while you're doing it." Hurrah!

And finally, he shares in Hollywood Reporter: "It’s hard to take yourself seriously with an American flag thong on with a strategically placed sparkler on the end of it. Honestly, the hardest part of this movie was biting the inside of my mouth to keep from laughing, especially watching Matthew in a yellow Spandex top and tiny bike shorts, grinding on Alex Pettyfer in front of the mirror.”

Manganiello says he was almost cast in the role of Superman, but his True Blood schedule prevented it. He says he would love to do a "smart" superhero movie. And how. *
