Saturating the Web, Facebook, Twitter... Paramedics found the 50-year-old singer unresponsive/not breathing at his home this afternoon.
TMZ.com insisting (at 5:20 p.m.) that he has died—not able to revive him when reached—while other news agencies cautiously saying he was rushed to the hospital.
CNN Headline News 6:15 p.m.: Not pronouncing his death... though interestingly, they are referring to him as "was."
6:34 p.m.: CNN still refusing to confirm, but acknowledging that the L.A. Times
has reported his death.
6:48 p.m.: Death now confirmed on Yahoo! CNN, it's time to make the call... This isn't a Presidential election, for god's sake.
And now the lunacy begins... random interviews with fans on the street, medical reports from Dr. John Doe, MD, gathering crowds, folks crying... It took one hour for a news story to turn into a circus... At least Farrah left us with dignity, though, god bless her, her death is going to end up "below the fold" in the papers tomorrow... And of course, the question of the hour:
Who is going to get the People magazine cover?!
Now this is absolutely lovely... a fitting tribute.
7:26 p.m.: CNN finally confirms his death. Good lord, the rest of the world has already accepted the truth from TMZ, AP, L.A. Times... Now, reports are comparing MJ to Elvis and Anna Nicole Smith... jacked up on prescription drugs that finally took their toll. Surely, there will be an autopsy, and I'm willing to buy it. I can't imagine that he wasn't surrounded by doctors that prescribed any and everything to relieve his various "ills." (P.S. A.J. Hammer is hot! Oops, sorry. Off-topic.)
