Lynchburg: FIRE!
A major fire destroyed a shopping center in Forest, Va., right as the parents and I were heading to visit my bro Chris and his wife Judy. We were driving along Route 221 right in the heart of the disaster, as flames engulfed the strip and smoke billowed less than a mile in front of us. The cops blocked the highway seconds before we made it through the light, forcing us to detour five or six miles through Bedford County.Of course I'm accustomed to instant information and was beside myself that there was no outlet to find out what had happened. Radio, local? Hahahahaha... Internet? None to be had.Once we returned home, I finally managed to find Internet service and found out what the disaster was all about. This final photo is from the Lynchburg News & Daily Advance Web site.
