Ankara Thursday: Day 2.1
Up and at 'em Thursday morning for my single full day in Ankara. Ayhan and I first went to the area of the city surrounding the Atakule mall, with its distinctive commercial architecture, to confirm our bus tix for the upcoming journey (back) to Istanbul. While Starbucks are thankfully few here, there's plenty of U.S. influence, including Subway, Dominos, McDonalds, KFC, Pizza Hut and Burger King.In the afternoon, one of Ayhan's oldest and dearest friends, Yesim, whom I have known since 2002, picked us up for a tour of Old Ankara, in the Kale nabe, where the dress of the residents is markedly different (read: conservative, if not fundamentalist).
