Hitfix's Melinda Newman, a pal and former Billboard colleague, reports that Cher has recorded a song written by Lady Gaga (hurrah!) and RedOne (less hurrah) for her first new studio album in 10 years. Cher apparently tweeted Wednesday night that she had just completed laying down vocals for Gaga's "You Are the Greatest Thing To Me." A full-length demo by Gaga can be heard here.
If I were at the helm, I'd recommend a full-on pop/dance production (stripping out RedOne's habitual and annoying whoops and hollers), moving away from the expected Almighty, Dave Aud and Stonebridge bumpity-bumpity dancefloor remix sound that is one more attempt to "Believe" again.
That classic No. 1 song came out in 1999; it's time for Cher to give us something new. She certainly showed she's still got the gusto via Burlesque ballad "You Haven't Seen the Last Of Me," written by the wondrous Diane Warren.
