New York City’s unemployment rate jumped to 10.3% in August as the number of city residents unable to find work rose to a
record high of 415,800. The city’s unemployment rate, up from 9.5% in July, is higher than the national rate of 9.7% and much higher than the 8% reported for the rest of the state—and yet we still have the lowest unemployment benefits in the Northeast. Thanks a lot, Gov. Paterson, who commented that "New York is going to face tough sledding for another year or more, but offered no potential solutions.
