My god, is there no end to the madness? When will political candidates recognize that America is more focused on the economy, unemployment, bank and Wall Street corruption, and home foreclosures than gays? And do Republicans not realize that every time they spout homophobia, the media is going to (justifiably) castrate them?
On Sunday's "Meet the Press," Colorado Republican Senatorial nominee Ken Buck (a Tea Party fave) stupidly compared being gay to alcoholism: "You can choose who your partner is. I think birth has an influence, like alcoholism and other things, but I think that basically you have a lifestyle choice."
Natch, the 51-year-old career prosecutor also supports Don't Ask, Don't Tell, which was declared unconstitutional last week. In another interview, he stated, "I certainly fit the mold of a different kind of candidate for the U.S. Senate." He's right: the kind that has no business influencing public policy. This guy needs to be sent back to the chicken coop, where he can keep his antiquated opinions to himself.
