Pardon me for missing the Dec. 31 birthday of the ever-fabulous LaDonna Adrian Gaines, whom we know better as Donna Summer. The five-time Grammy winner is 62.I met Summer at a double-diva event hosted by Sony in 1999, the evening before she was taping a TV special for VH1, "Donna Summer: Live and More Encore." In one room, press gathered to greet Summer, in another was fave Aussie superstar singer/songwriter Tina Arena,
whom Epic was trying their damndest to break in the States.Eventually the two met, and Donna was charmed by Tina—and invited her to duet on "No More Tears (Enough Is Enough)" at the highly rated concert. I was in attendance the next night and the audience went insane when Tina launched into Barbra's lines. An amazing event with two extraordinary performers.
