Back in September, we found out we'd won the home makeover lottery. After auditioning for HGTV's popular "Dear Genevieve" makeover series last summer, Ayhan and I were awarded a bedroom re-do, a la the many reno shows pervading cable TV—all of which I am wholly addicted to.
You'd think that was the holy grail, but in New York, coop living requires Board approval, which was as tenacious a task as chewing off one's toenails with two teeth in the back of your head, so there was a long road toward making this a reality. Given the number of queries and concerns, you'd think we were proposing rebuilding the Brooklyn Bridge.
But at last, in December, we got a thumbs up from the Board... only to find out that it had taken us so long to gain approval that our makeover had been pushed back from January to late February. Sigh... But then, a week ago, a call: The show had a cancellation —and an opening for the week of Jan. 10-14. Our response: Yes, please!
Genevieve Gorder, a graduate of the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan and a judge on HGTV's "Design Star," is in her fourth season of "Dear Genevieve," and will be here, along with a crew of designers, stylists, producers, camera- and sound-men, and carpenters on Monday morning, with the reveal Friday afternoon. We are slated for Episode 409... New shows premiere Saturdays at 9 p.m., meaning with the current schedule, we should be featured in about two months!
By contract, I'm not allowed to blog about the job in progress, but I'll be taking lots of pics and writing through each step, which I look forward to sharing as soon as the episode airs.
Wish us luck, cool cats! And stand by for every luscious detail.
