Early Oscar Predictions!

With the 82nd Academy Award nominations announced today, The Smoking Nun offers a handful of early predictions!

Best Actress in a Supporting Role nominee Penélope Cruz wins the Actress Who Most Steamrolls The English Language Award! Too bad Ariana Huffington didn't also receive a nod.Best Actress nominee Gabourey Sibide for "Precious" wins the Jaye Davidson Award! He's the trannie from "The Crying Game" who was nominated in 1992... and never seen again.Best Actress in a Supporting Role nominee Maggie Gyllenhaal wins again for Worst Impression of An Attractive Woman (also fondly known as the Rottweiler Award). And the entire Music (Original Song) category wins for Biggest Waste of An Oscar Category!

Remember "Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head"? "The Way We Were"? "You Light Up My Life," "Last Dance," "Fame," "Up Where We Belong," "Flashdance"? Celine Dion's "Beauty and the Beast" and "My Heart Will Go On"? Of course you do, because they were all well-crafted contemporary hits of their time.

This year, we have “Almost There” and “Down in New Orleans” by Randy Newman from “The Princess and the Frog”; “Loin de Paname” from “Paris 36”; “Take It All” from “Nine”; and “The Weary Kind" from “Crazy Heart.” Seriously, why bother?
