Judge Vaughn R. Walker's powerful comments from his 138-page
ruling that Cali's Prop 8 is unconstitutional:
"It would demean a married couple were it to be said marriage is simply about the right to have sexual intercourse. Moral disapproval, without any other asserted state interest, has never been a rational basis for legislation. Animus towards gays and lesbians or simply a belief that a relationship between a man and a woman is inherently better than a relationship between two men or two women is not a proper basis on which to legislate."
"California has already issued 18,000 marriage licenses to same-sex couples and has not suffered any demonstrated harm as a result."
Now it's time for another wise man to chime in on the subject: Mr. President, you've been mum on social issues since you took office. We need to hear from you presently.
