On July 28, we reported Target's $150,000 contribution to rabid anti-gay political candidate Tom Emmer, who has written on his web site that "it's moral and righteous for religious people to kill gays and lesbians."
Today, in a memo to Target employees, CEO Gregg Steinhafel apologized. This is where the web, Facebook and blogs can definitely do good, in spreading the word when corporate giants fund hate.
Consumerist.com reprints his quote, which, in part, says, "The intent of our political contribution was to support economic growth and job creation. I realize our decision affected many of you in a way I did not anticipate, and for that I am genuinely sorry. We remain fully committed to fostering an environment that supports and respects the rights and beliefs of all individuals. The diversity of our team is an important aspect of our unique culture and our success as a company, and we did not mean to disappoint you, our team or our valued guests."
Apology accepted. Now get the money back.
