Psych! The sun came out, the rains subsided... and then the winds began to howl. News reports say they're reaching 40 mph. It's the most dramatic impact I've seen in NYC from Hurricane Irene, aside from flooding in Manhattan along the river. Below, wind along the Brooklyn Heights Promenade.
Stir crazy. As soon as the rains stopped, the Promenade was teeming with folks.
A view to Manhattan... At last, the sky has cleared.
