Rick Perry: Another Homophobic GOP Candidate Bites The Dust

Yesterday's great news that Texas Gov. Rick Perry bombed out from the Republican presidential race equates another sigh of relief for the gay community. Much like nincompoop Herman Cain before him, Perry was not only vocal in his opposition to gay marriage, but had the Civil War-era view that gays in the military would upset the delicate balance of those well-behaved straight boys serving the country.

A TV ad that aired in early December spouted, "I'm not ashamed to admit I'm a Christian, but there's something wrong when gays can serve openly in the military but our kids can't openly celebrate Christmas or pray in school."

Yawn... as usual, Jesus has to star in every G.O.P. shout-out, while gays are the sacrificial lambs. This is typical fill in the blanks prejudice.

So now it's a race between adulterer & social conservative Newt Gingrich—who doesn't believe gays should adopt children—and front-runner Mitt Romney—who is against gay marriage, but otherwise prefers politics over posturing on social issues. May the best man lose. *
