Following the March preview of new CD "Can't We Be Friends" at New York's Metropolitan Room, vocalist Jerry Costanzo hosted an official disc launch Monday evening at lush nightclub Feinstein's at Costanzo's hook is "bringing the American songbook into the 21st Century," with a collection of songs that
brings his musical idols back to life: Frank Sinatra, Perry Como, Count Basie, Mel Torme and Nat King Cole.With a warm, embracing vocal-ease, Costanzo shared the 10 songs on "Friends" Monday evening, including "East of the Sun (West of the Moon)," "Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps," "Oh, You Crazy Moon" "Love Me Or Leave Me" and my fave, "Penthouse Serenade." He was accompanied by his sextet of world-class jazz veterans, including Andy Farber on sax and flute; Mike Carubia on trumpet; Isaac Ben Ayala on piano; Mark Sherman on vibraphone; Joe Cohn on guitar; Ben Wolfe on bass; and Jimmy Madison on drums.
