Mark Ruffalo Covers May 2011 'Details'
Mark Ruffalo, 43, also seems to be simmering just below superstar status. Despite a steady string of well-endorsed movies, he has evaded A-list status for the past decade. His Oscar-nominated performance in The Kids Are All Right was riveting, alongside robust talent Annette Bening and Julianne Moore, and now—thanks to giving in to the superhero genre—the sexy man next door may be about to see his star catapult to the heavens.
He co-stars in the Marvel comic-book franchise The Avengers as the Hulk, hitting theaters in May 2012, with an all-star cast including Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth(!), Chris Evans(!), Scarlett Johansson (zzz), Samuel L. Jackson and Jeremy Renner. The flick, directed by Joss Whedon, started production at the end of April. Chris, Chris and Mark... Let me in!
ADDENDUM: Mark Ruffalo will be playing gay activist Ned Weeks in Ryan Murphy's film adaptation of The Normal Heart, Larry Kramer's seminal 1985 play about the dawn of the AIDS crisis. Read his revealing interview in The Advocate, where he proves what an ally he is to the gay community.
