Nanny State: NYC Mayor Bloomie Now Wants To Control The Air You Breathe

Like a little boy not content to just play with his own toys, billionaire Mayor Mike Bloomberg has decided he now wants to take away yet another right of New Yorkers. His latest goal is to own the air.

The city's health commissioner says Bloomie wants to ban smoking at city parks and beaches. Apparently, if he can't outright own city land, he's damn determined to legislate until he feels he does. New York has 1,700 parks, playgrounds and rec facilities, in addition to 14 miles of beaches.

When the mayor banned smoking in restaurants and bars in 2002, I got it: No one should have to breathe smoke in an enclosed structure, blah, blah. But insisting that "second-hand" smoke is a hazard to little kiddies in the great outdoors is mind-blowing. He also swears it leads to kids getting addicted to smoking! Is he on crack? The king apparently is feeling the heat of falling popularity ratings in his bid for an illegal third term, and is stamping his feet for attention, like a spoiled kid having a meltdown.

How about passing a law against babies screaming in public? Cursing? Fried food served in restaurants? Dogs barking? Bad breath? Bleached hair? Oh, my god, let's reinstate Prohibition! Cause drinking is bad! There's so much left to do to create Bloomie's utopian NYC.
