Had the pleasure of birthday brunching in honor of my former workmate and pal Allie Cahill today. What a destination: DBGB Kitchen and Bar on Bowery 
near Houston, an area that used to be inundated by restaurant supply and lighting stores. Bit by bit, hip bars and restaurants are setting up shop—unfortunately, along with misplaced highrise rentals and condos, a Whole Food Market and other big box retailers. DBGB is one of four restaurants operated by chef Daniel Boulud, including five-star Upper East Side eatery Daniel.
