Starbucks: Free Wi-Fi For All July 1

Apparently, Starfucks has realized that a $4 cup of sludge and cement scones are no longer an iron-clad business plan, so beginning July 1, the chain is offering free Wi-Fi at all U.S. company-operated stores. No more of those dumbass Starbucks cards, no password and no two-hour restriction.

Thank you McDonald's, whose McCafe mocha drinks and free Wi-Fi have walloped Starfucks market share. The coffee chain is also establishing the Starbucks Digital Network, which will offer free access to such paid sites as the Wall Street Journal, and free downloads from iTunes, the New York Times and USA Today.

In March, a Consumer Reports survey found that McD's coffee ranked higher than 'Bucks: "decent and moderately strong," versus Starbucks' "burnt and bitter enough to make your eyes water instead of open." McDonald's also offers the cheapest morning joe among major chains. At last, the consumer wins.
