'Friends' Grads: Good TV, Really Bad TV

Excellent new show: Showtime's "Episodes," starring a wonderfully refreshing Matt LeBlanc, who parodies himself by playing himself as a sleazy, entitled actor painfully miscast in the remake of a British TV series. Also stars Stephen Mangan and Tamsin Greig. Funny as hell, irreverent... and Matt looks better than ever in his 40s.Dreadful new show: ABC's "Mr. Sunshine," starring fellow "Friends" alumnus Matthew Perry. Its premiere scored well in the ratings, but what wouldn't following "Modern Family." The show is painfully unfunny, network "comedy" on the lowest rung. Perry is still playing the only character he's ever known: a true one-trick pony. And what a tragic waste of the talented Allison Janney.Other winners: the return of my favorite show "Californication" with David Duchovny and the ravishing Natascha McElhone; and "Harry's Law," the new David E. Kelly vehicle starring Kathy Bates. She truly can do no wrong.

  1. I totally agree with you on Harry's Law. Can't lose with Kathy Bates and David E. Kelley.
You MUST give Mr. Sunshine another watch. I thought it was hysterical! Allison Janney had excellent chemistry with Matthew Perry. My favorite lines were hers: "Clowns terrify me. Are they happy? Are they sad? Why are their pockets so big?" Funny stuff!
