Bloomberg Tells Off Mosque Bigots

For all my relentless criticism of New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, here's one instance where his arrogance and doggedness aired on the side of personal freedoms instead of political correctness. I applaud his stance on the swirling horseshit surrounding a Muslim community center being built blocks from Ground Zero. Reactionaries are insinuating that all Muslims committed the terrorist act at the World Trade Center on 9/11.

Bloomberg said: "The attack was an act of war, and our first responders defended not only our city, but our country and constitution. We do not honor their lives by denying the very constitutional rights they died protecting. We honor their lives by defending those rights and the freedoms that the terrorists attacked.

"Muslims are as much a part of our city and our country as the people of any faith. And they are as welcome to worship in lower Manhattan as any other group. There is no neighborhood in this city that is off-limits to God's love and mercy."

I never thought I'd say it, but Bravo, Mr. Mayor.
