AmaZing Zarley

Publicist friend Michael Caprio sent me new music last fall from openly gay singer/songwriter Matt Zarley, which admittedly, sat in the short stack... until Ayhan and I had the opportunity to meet Matt with Michael at an event. Earlier that day, my friend and Sirius OutQ host Larry Flick had IM'd me, insisting that I would love Matt's music and needed to consider for review pronto.

So that evening, as I chat with Matt, I'm daft enough to say, "I'm sorry I haven't listened. Larry tells me you've got some great ballads... I'd assumed it was all dance." His response: "Why, because I'm gay?" Pause. Ringing in my ears. "Well, yes." Wow, the truth makes me stupid!

Of course, since, I have discovered the riches of Mr. Z, and his EP "Here I Am" became a 2008 staple for me. And now, in a wonderful twist of fate, after he and Ayhan met, they collaborated on one of the mixes on the stinkin' new release of the title track—the Ayhan Sahin Crystal Ball Club and Radio mixes—along with remix staples Love To Infinity and Solar City. Ain't serendipity the coolest?

So appreciative that at the bottom of the above, which is Matt's Web homepage, he quotes my Billboard review.
