McD's Rolls Out Free WiFi: FU, Starbucks

Starbucks has always made it a bit of a chump challenge to access WiFi, if you're not an AT&T subscriber: You can purchase a pre-paid card on future purchases, which grants you access. All well and good... if you can stand to drink the acidic mud they call coffee. I'm apparently one of the few who prefer to make my own brew at home.

Today, McDonald's made another move to take on the behemoth by offering free WiFi in the 11,000 of its 14,000 stores that currently offer it for a fee ($2.95 for two hours). According to consumerist.com, "The goal is to make their restaurants more amenable to people hanging out, and gobble up more of Starbucks' share of the latte-sipping market," in addition to its planned roll-out of frappes and smoothies by the middle of 2010.

Having been out of work for nine months, I admit that when I need a little fast food fix, you can't beat McD's pricing... though Wendy's new $2.99 combos may wipe that notion off the map... Hmm, I'm suddenly hungry.
